Title: Hi - I'm Steven
Date: 3rd March, 2008

G’day guys! My name is Steve, and I have just joined the StorMan family as their new Technical Services Manager - taking over from Simon, who has moved to a different roll with another company.

I guess I should start with a bit of background information & history. I grew up on the beach in the small town of Portarlington where I spent most of my days fishing, diving, playing footy & racing pretty much anything with a motor that I could get my hands on - including boats! And if I couldn't get my hands on anything, I'd just build a go-cart out of bits of scrap (it’s handy having a mechanic for a dad) then race it around until it broke.

After graduating high school, I joined the Army where I went into Communications. Most of my work involved setting up radio communication from remote places so that people could talk and send data files for tactical reasons. I’ve also been deployed overseas to Timor and various other places, but I’d have to say that one of my more memorable & enjoyable trips was when i was deployed to the Solomon Islands.

While over there, I was sent to the middle of the jungle (along with a platoon of NZ infantry) to set up & secure a heliport. After a few days of hard work, the area had been cleared & we decided to play a bit of soccer. As soon as that soccer ball was brought out, about 40 local kids came screaming out from nowhere and that was it - “game on!” I gotta tell ya, those kids have an endless supply of energy!

As the games went on, more & more locals came out and the crowd just got bigger and bigger - the locals started bring all sorts of food, and we even had a massive hungy going! They then brought out a series of musical instruments which can only be described as "bamboo tube xylophones", which were called thong pipes. Oddly enough, they were called this because the locals literally played them with their thongs. Fantastic! By the end of the day we had a full-on festival going & it went long into the night.

Anyway thats enough story time for now. For my final thought, i would just like to say that i look forward to working in StorMan and with all of you. Keep an eye on my blog, as I'll attempt to post regularly :-) ...until next time!

Steven B.
