Title: Another new server on the way
Date: 21st May, 2008
I've been asked to write another blog or another army story to put on the site -but seeing as how my last one got cleaned up so much I’ve decided to be boring and write about something a little less colourful... ;-)
Of late, I have noticed that our Hosted MultiView server has been a lot busier - and given the fact that it’s almost as old as I am (slightly exaggerated, I’m not that old - LOL), I convinced Ben that it was time for a new one. At this point Ben asked me to go away and "make the machine that I wanted" and to come back to him with a list of parts and a price. I walked away with a grin on me face, knowing that Ben had not really thought that last part through. Later that day, I brought Ben a list of parts and an estimated cost - and it was at this point where we had to sit down and have a lengthy discussion about what we (I) wanted and what we actually needed.
You’ll be happy to know that we came to a good compromise. The new server is running a quad core Intel, mirror (1) RAID for the OS and stripe (0) for the data side of the house. I’m sure that doesn’t mean much to most of you, but for all you geeks out there I thought you might be interested.
The server is coming along nicely only a few things left to do like setting up a domain, adding accounts, re-routing in the firewall.... ok so there is a bit of a list but I hope to have the new server up and running very soon - and best of all, we managed not to spend our entire budget at once... well Ben did - I tried but he would not let me :P
Talk ya later sports fans!
